Wine and food are intrinsically connected, each linked with a sense of place or “terroir.” With this concept in mind, Chef James Walt has created a fresh, contemporary style of dining in the Coastal mountains melding traditional Italian cuisine with local flavours. Our wine list complements Il Caminetto’s unique menu and is inspired by the restaurant’s Italian heritage and its location in Whistler, British Columbia.
Chef Walt’s dishes represent Italy in its entirety, and we have striven to do the same with our wine list. From Piedmont and Veneto in the north, to Sicily and Puglia in the south, our guests can enjoy wine from all the major regions in Italy. In addition, we are justifiably proud of our local vineyards and present a wide range of B.C. vintages. As a restaurant located in a major international tourist destination, we enjoy showcasing what this province has on offer for visitors excited to experience “farm to table” — on the plate and in the glass.
Our wine list focuses on the major wine regions of Italy and the Pacific West Coast, with vintage verticals where possible, of exceptional and well-known wine producers. In addition, it includes a varied selection of lesser known varietals and vintners who are establishing their names for quality with wine connoisseurs.
Our menu evolves seasonally and so too does our “wine by the glass” program. We aim to have a diversified selection ranging from Italy, B.C. and the United States Pacific Coast. Our Coravin system allows us to propose a premium by the glass list as well. Our Sommeliers are happy to prepare a wine pairing selection for any set menu or “à la carte” dinner.
To provide the best service possible, we have a range of crystal stemware and decanters of different shapes and sizes for various types of wines. Our wine room is kept at a constant 14°C along with four sub-zero© temperature controlled wine fridges set to 8°C for our white wine selections.
